introduction
Rateservice is a civic platform designed to make public service performance visible, comparable, and actionable, backed by the United Nations GCN and the Government of Switzerland (via Embassy).

challenge
Designing RateService required navigating a delicate balance between usability and credibility. Citizen feedback systems often suffer from friction, bias, or distrust, leading to inconsistent participation.
The core challenge was to create a rating experience that minimized hesitation, reduced cognitive effort, and made participants feel psychologically safe, while still producing structured, reliable data suitable for benchmarking public institutions.

The Vision
RateService was conceived as a bridge between citizen experience and institutional performance. The objective was to create a platform where service feedback becomes a natural, low-effort action rather than a burdensome task.
Approach
We approached RateService as both an experience design challenge and a data-structuring problem. The platform needed to feel effortless for citizens while generating reliable, decision-grade insights for institutions.
We designed a low-friction interaction model that allows users to submit ratings in just a few intuitive steps. The evaluation flow was intentionally simplified to minimize hesitation, reduce cognitive effort, and encourage consistent participation. Each input was structured around clearly defined service dimensions: behaviour, timeliness, and productivity, ensuring that subjective experiences could be translated into standardized metrics. From an interface perspective, we prioritized clarity, neutrality, and psychological comfort. Visual hierarchy, spacing, and micro-feedback mechanisms were carefully calibrated to make the process feel quick, safe, and transparent rather than evaluative or confrontational. On the system layer, we developed a structured aggregation framework that converts individual citizen feedback into comparable performance indicators. The live dashboard was designed to surface meaningful patterns, highlight high-performing offices, and reveal service gaps without overwhelming users with complexity. By aligning usability, credibility, and analytical structure, RateService functions as both a citizen engagement platform and a transparent institutional performance instrument.

Results
Rateservice became a system that converts individual evaluations into aggregated, comparable indicators, enabling citizens, media, and policymakers to understand public service quality through clear, accessible signals.
